In Ten Of The World's Most Expensive Jewels

Fortunately, there is plenty to choose from at the top end of the jewelry market, where "big-stone" pieces from couture designers and jewelers along Fifth Avenue, Rodeo Drive and Bond Street are currently all the rage. "Diamond trading companies have done a good job of promoting single-stone and three-stone pieces recently, resulting in fewer overall unit sales, but much higher dollar value per piece," notes Nancy Robey, vice president of global new business development at the VNU Expositions Jewelry Group, which runs the Annual Couture Jewellery Collection & Conference in Las Vegas. "Hollywood glamour has also been driving a lot of interest in diamonds, which are everywhere these days, and consumers are going into retailers and requesting grand red-carpet looks."

Million-Dollar Rocks 2006

Let's put it this way: You've worked very hard. 2005 was a good year. Your bonus surpassed even your expectations. But only because you logged a lot of air miles and schmoozed a lot of clients, and too many nights the most important person in your life found herself going to bed alone.
So, this Valentine's Day, pink Champagne, a heart-shaped trinket or a fluffy teddy bear won't do. Not if you want her to still speak to you on Feb. 15, that is. And while you may need to rethink some of your priorities--or, at least, so she says--a good way to show that you aren't such a big jerk after all is to buy her something shiny and expensive.
If you're smart, very expensive

World's Most Expensive Diamond at $7.98 Million

It is the ultimate diamond in the rough. And if you have to ask how much it costs, you can’t afford it. A rareand flawless blue diamond has set a record as the most expensiveprecious jewel of its kind ever sold. The gem, which is 6.04 carats andsparkles with an unusual blue hue, is almost as breathtaking as theprice it fetched at a Sotheby’s auction in Hong Kong. It went for an astounding US$7.98 million, or about $US1.32 million per carat.
That easily surpassed the cost of theprevious record holder known as “The Hancock Red”, which fetched a“paltry” US$926,000 per carat in 1987.
Blue diamonds are rare but not unheardof and the ones in spectacular condition almost always fetch a hugeprice. Despite this sale, the most famous remains the Hope Diamond,a 45.52 carat monster that has been owned by everyone from King LouisXIV of France to a rich socialite named Evalyn Walsh McLean. It’s thelargest gemstone of its kind ever found and now resides in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C.
The new record holder for price isn’tquite as large, so how it could manage to reap those sparkling bucks?Experts say it’s all in the quality of the cut and the “fancy vividblue hue”, a result of trace amounts of an element called boron in its crystal structure. That makes it worth about 10 times what a regular white diamond would bring.
So who owns this incredible piece ofjewelry? A company called Moussaieff Jewellers in London, whichspecializes in acquiring such rare specimens, ponyed up the money aftera private Asian collector decided he needed a little - or in this casea lot more - cash.
Which just goes to show you don’t always need yellow to turn a shade of blue into something green.

When you hear expensive laptops there are two things that come to mind, an Apple MacBook or those silly gold and/or diamond encrusted laptops. This morning when I saw a post in the forums titled "MOST expensive laptop ever?!?!" I was actually expecting it to be one of the usual anti-Mac type threads that pop up from time to time on every site, but as it so turns out it my assumption couldn't have been more wrong.
Right now, it appears that a tiny glitch in Lenovo's online store is causing a 12.1" ThinkPad X61s to be overpriced by about $29,000,000 USD. The good news is, if you ADD a copy of Microsoft Office 2007 to your order, it'll knock the price down by about a million bucks. This may be the first hard evidence that I've ever seen of Microsoft providing a cost savings. Fully decked out with 8G memory, a 200GB hard disk, blue tooth and more, the system will run you about $29,001,878.00 (USD) + tax and shipping and handling. Hurry and buy now, with prices this low we're sure it won't stay in stock for long!
Thanks to trudgy for the heads up in the forums! Pictures (in case they fix the issue) are available below.

The World's Most Expensive Diamond Studded Cellphone

$1.3 million for a cellphone??
YES!
Guinness World Records certifies this GoldVish phone as the most expensive in the world--1 million euros, or about $1.3 million. The odd-shaped device is made out of 18-carat white gold and features 1,800 diamonds totaling 120 carats (this goes waaay beyond "bling")!! A Russian businessman bought Le Million for his wife last September at a luxury goods fair in Cannes, France. Don't have a spare million for this made-by-request gadget? Geneva-based GoldVish has plenty of expensive phones in its lineup, including models with gold plating and diamond-studded cases.
